What happens when a Karate master
builds a hot springs spa? This is the
question answered by Kiyoshi Yamazaki
when he spent nearly $2 million and
four years to build desert hot springs’
first new spa built from the ground up.
nobody remembers when the last new
spa was built in town.
This beautiful four room facility
boasts luxurious suites with fine style
and grace. The spacious rooms have
excellent features found in the best of
hotels. naturally hot mineral water is
pumped on-site from the ground at 160
degrees to circulate with outdoor spas
and room baths at 105 degrees.
The grand opening saturday april
5th featured a well-attended gourmet
feast enjoyed by friends, family, students,
and local civic leaders.
There is a calm and spiritual tranquility
to the contemporary architecture
that feels healthy and contemplative.
The builder was g & s development &
investments of desert hot springs.
“golf is like the martial arts. it is
the physicality and the mental discipline
that’s the same,” yamazaki said. a
self-proclaimed golf fanatic, 18 handicap,
yamazaki is a man with a genuine
smile and warm, gracious manners. as
a highly respected and internationally
recognized chief instructor of his arts,
he ranks just below the grand master of
his discipline, Japan Karate-do ryobu-
Kai.
his passport is a thick testament to his
world renown with stamps from the Congo
to Cameroon adding extra pages. he
has long enjoyed a first name friendship
with our governor, an association gained
as “fighting choreographer” on the sent of
‘Conan the Barbarian.’ many other movie
works created an impressive portfolio, most
recently adding actor dennis Quaid. in addition,
he maintains Karate schools in orange
County.
daughter mina, from san Francisco,
explains that her 68 year-old father and
mother, Japanese emigrants from 1969, and
both american citizens, will attract the high
echelon of Japanese who visit the valley for
golf. Japan has a rich history of social bathing,
actually soaking, and golf fanaticism,
that yamazaki intends to serve.
Yamazaki, who sports a quick mind and
the wisdom of many years and many adventures
explains, “at my age health is the
battle” as his reason for building the spa.
a broad deck built atop the car port serves
as a vast surface to exercise or train with a
fantastic mountain view atop miracle hill,

just down from the world famous Cabot’s
museum. For a special demonstration of the
Samurai sword the master donned the outfit
which was once his fathers, the fabric over a
hundred years old.
The warrior appeared smooth, slick and
focused to battle the elements of desert hot
springs with an afternoon wind so slight
it hardly wrinkled the mind. suddenly the
lightening fast blade brilliantly reflects the
sun as it perfectly sliced clean across the
bamboo target similar to the correctness of a
well executed precision golf stroke.
The vision of yamazaki to construct the
spa is identified with the hopes of a city
moving ahead. The slight but powerful entrepreneur
joins the pantheon of new pioneers
who are transforming the windy city
into a new municipality of delightful design,
intriguing ideas and creative imagination.
