Chalk On The Block Surprise
Art Exhibit At Desert Springs

students at desert springs middle school
were in for a surprise monday when they saw
a whole section of pavement decorated with
chalk drawings decorating Scorpion Square.
about a dozen students spent all of sunday
afternoon drawing the artwork, using colored
chalk. Louisa Castrodale, the visual and performing
arts director from the palm springs
Unified School District, was responsible for
this sudden exhibit.
“i had seen an article in the press-enterprise
about a similar event, where people drew
pictures on sidewalk space,” said Castrodale
to desert Local news. “The principal of desert
springs and i were talking a lot about the

squares outside, and we planned on doing
this on a weekend. When the kids returned to
school on monday, they had a nice surprise.”
The art display was quite a conversation
piece to many of the students who saw
it. amongst those drawings included a peace
sign, a rainbow, the earth and a face of a
woman. There was nothing negative, no gangrelated
nor gory pictures drawn, just nice, happy,
environmentally friendly messages shared
through the sketches. “There was quite a variety,
with no restrictions,” Castrodale continued.
“it was like walking through a museum
exhibit.”
